King’s African Riflemen undergo physical training, 1939-1945 circa. Photograph, World War Two, East Africa, 1939-1945 circa. Infantry soldiers have always had to be physically fit and undertook regular exercise while in camp and on exercise. Endurance and strength was especially vital for soldiers of the King’s African Rifles during World War Two as several battalions served in the unforgiving Burma theatre where the climate and disease took a heavy toll on soldiers’ health.
