Switzerland Alpine Sura Inauguration, 1968 (b/w photo)

***With the festival popular inauguration of a new alpine hut and alpine dairy on Alp Sura above Guarda in the Lower Engadine on 25 August 1968, the numerous guests, the television and the press were given an impressive demonstration of what rural self-help can achieve. The hut (82 cows), the electricity supply and the complete renovation of the alpine dairy were built by the farmers trained in construction courses at the Swiss Heimatwerkschule in Richterswil on their own, which meant a saving of 48,000 Swiss francs for the mountain village of Guarda. Our picture shows the festive inauguration of the Alphuette Sura, framed by Laendler music.
