This crime novel is one of Agatha Christie's best known and best-selling books. It is also the world's best-selling crime novel. In 2020, the author's heirs and Éditions du Masque decided to change the French title of the book to “They were ten”, deleting the word “Négre” considered offensive. This change of title had already been made in 1940 in the USA and then later in the United Kingdom. In the English language editions, the work was therefore entitled successively “Ten Little Niggers”, then alternately “Ten Little Indians” and “And Then There Were None”
