Image description

Parmigianino was one of the most prolific draughtsmen of the Renaissance, working with great skill in all media. This drawing was inspired by a tapestry by Raphael depicting the same subject, also known through prints, which Parmigianino would have encountered during his years in Rome. The sinuous elegance of his line and his elongated figures were much prized by artists and collectors in the seventeenth century.
