Image description

On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "New Bond St, W to E. Another section. Note the convexity of Cain's window frame - intentional. Beyond, the whitewashed gable of no 11. Up aginast this gable was another baker's shop, no 9. Sucessively Creer's, Quine's and Bell's. Later occupied by Mrs Rowlands, seller of secondhand clothes. In her occupancy, the place was burnt out, and the walls being dangerous, were taken down centre distance. St Matthew's Hall, earlier the old Grammar School; in the house portion of which the Rev T E Brown, Manx National poet, was born in 1830. See also SIV/1." Additional notes: "According to James Roney, the order of succession was Quine's, Creer's and Bell's. ?See Thwaite's for Creer's, Quine's and Bell's, actually."
