The Irish politician Eamon de Valera founded in 1926, mainly from Sinn Féin members of the party Fianna Fail, whose chairman he became. In 1932, his party became the strongest force in the Irish Parliament and De Valera was appointed the Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach). One of the first acts of the new government was the abolition of the Anglo-Irish Treaty's oath of the Irish Members of Parliament (Teachta Dala) to the British crown. The Office of the Taoiseach, he had held continuously until 1948 and then again twice (1951-1954 and 1957-1959). From 1959 to 1973 De Valera was Irish President. Eamon de Valera, 1932
