His first public statements were made in the medium of film. His first film, 'Hurlements en faveur de Sade' (1952) consisted entirely of alternating black and white leader accompanied by a voiceover by Debord and others. Subsequent films were made using accumulations of found footage, in keeping with the Situationist theory of 'd351tournement:' using already existing imagistic material as raw material for new works. He committed suicide in 1994. French artist, communications theorist.
