Contemporary Art, the movement of constant evolution.
In art history, contemporary art succeeds modern art. Chronologically, it encompasses all works created after 1945. Contemporary artists have benefited from recent creative techniques such as photography, painting, screen printing, digital technologies, and more. One characteristic of contemporary art is that it has no limitation in terms of medium. More than just a chronological period, contemporary works are recognized for their ability to question their era, challenge the norms of mediums, dissemination, and even lifespan.
The definition of contemporary art is based on the use of techniques, subjects, and styles from modernism. It is a complex concept to explain as it has evolved and continues to evolve over time. Originally emerging as an artistic movement after World War II, it gained particular prominence in the 1960s and 1970s.
Contemporary art, the result of two centuries of art evolution.
Over the years, contemporary art has transcended the boundaries of what is traditionally considered noble art. Its current form has evolved over the past two centuries, shaped by artists who have created their works amidst rapidly changing societies.
Several movements can be identified within contemporary art, including figurative art, hyperrealism, street art, feminist art, conceptual art, and more.
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ai Weiwei, David Hockney, Louise Bourgeois, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Yayoy Kusama, Jenny Saville... all of these artists come from the realm of contemporary art.
Contemporary art arouses a growing curiosity due to its constant ability to renew itself. It can be perceived as vibrant, rebellious, even aggressive and complex, but above all, it embodies creative momentum and novelty. Contemporary art evokes unique emotions that resonate with our time.
